Membership levels within the AAOP include the following:    Fellow, Active, Affiliate, Student, Retired, and Honorary.   If an AAOP member has an inaccurate membership type please contact our office with request to update their record.  

Fellow Members:  Fellowship is the highest achievement and expertise that AAOP offers.  Licensed dentists or equivalent degree in good standing within their state or country who have been completed application and acccepted by the Academy.  

Active Members:  Licensed dentists or equivalent degree in good standing within their state or country.

Affiliate Members:   Affiliate members are not licensed within the dentristry field, but hold advanced degrees or other licensure within the healthcare field.  Examples include Phd, PT, MD, DO, MA, and RN.  Affiliate members are not eligible to hold Council officer positions (secretary-elect, etc), but can fully participate within the AAOP Council and Committees.   

Student Members: Full-time individuals who are enrolled in a dental or post-graduate dental program as of December 31, 2023.  Students must renew as "Active" or "Affilate" member one-year after graduation. 

Retired Members: Individuals who are retired and no longer maintain an active license.
